Tooth Extractions

At Pine Creek Dental in Colorado Springs, we will do everything we can to save your teeth. However, in some cases, extracting a tooth may be necessary if it is severely decayed, damaged, or infected beyond repair. In these cases, Dr. Thompson may recommend a tooth extraction as the best course of action to preserve your overall oral health.

Our team is here to help you feel at ease while having your tooth removed. We take a truly gentle and compassionate approach through every procedure, ensuring you stay comfortable from beginning to end.

What Is a Tooth Extraction?

A tooth extraction is an outpatient oral surgery that involves removing a tooth from its socket. It’s generally a quick process unless the tooth is impacted, broken below the gum line, or presents other challenges.

Several reasons you might need your tooth removed include:

  • Severe decay
  • Broken tooth
  • Impacted tooth
  • Crowded teeth
  • Advanced gum disease

Signs You May Need a Tooth Removed

If you have a toothache that will not go away, Dr. Thompson may recommend a tooth extraction, but only if necessary.

Other signs that you may need a tooth extraction include:

  • Facial swelling
  • Jaw pain and stiffness
  • High fever
  • Visible breakage
  • Displaced tooth
  • Red, swollen gums

Before removing the tooth, we will perform a full exam to assess the situation and create a personalized treatment plan designed just for your needs. You’re welcome to ask any questions to get all the info you need to make informed dental care decisions. Remember that we only recommend a tooth extraction when necessary, and we will do everything we can to save the tooth.

Our Approach to Tooth Extraction

If you decide to have your tooth removed, we will perform the following steps to give you the top quality care you expect and deserve:

  1. We will fully numb the area around the affected tooth to keep you comfortable during the extraction.
  2. An incision will be made in the gums to allow removal of the tooth.
  3. Dr. Thompson will gently rock the tooth back and forth to loosen it and remove it from the socket.
  4. The socket will be cleaned and gauze will be placed over the extraction site.
  5. Instructions for post extraction care will be provided before you leave the office.

Remember that your comfort is always our top priority, and we put your needs first. This defines the Pine Creek Dental experience. If you feel as if you may need a tooth extraction, please give us a call at (719) 268-9400 and schedule an appointment today.

I have been going to Pine Creek Dental for years. The staff is amazing! They are great at explaining everything as they go. I am so glad I found this place after my previous dentist retired. I will not go anywhere else.

The staff was very friendly and kept me at ease during the entire procedure. We even got to laugh and joke a few times. Love this practice and HIGHLY recommend having any dental work done here!
